Finishing the Finishing of Furniture

I’ve never before thought that a china cabinet could work me to point of death, but damn it mine just about did. I’m being hyperbolic, I promise, but it genuinely felt like I was about to die of both waiting and upper arm workouts.

The day finally came, though. I have one complete and fully black painted china cabinet sitting in my dining room. My cats made short work of climbing on top and nesting in the open drawer that I still have to fix. It’s beautiful, and I’ve already begun stuffing it full of other peoples gifted treasured fine dishes. If I’m being fully transparent, my biggest interest in completing this piece is that I get to clear some of the stuff out of my overly stuffed dish cabinets and let my pieces breathe.

The three matriarchs of my husbands family each have a distinctive set of Fiestaware. I typically prefer a monochrome palette, but the plates, to me, symbolize the communal history of the family.

and I inherited one of the sets early!

I’m not done inserting the dishes into the display yet because I have to order more dish stands but I’m really happy with the progress thus far.

I started painting the matching sideboard a few days ago and this piece is going to take way less time. Instead of six plus months I’m thinking it will take no more than six weeks. I have no idea what I’m going to put in the hutch at all, but I’m sure my collector-of-everything ass will find something and overfill it in no time.

I’m a creator by nature. I’ve been reading since before I could talk, and writing since I could hold a pencil. I got my start by writing shitty fan fiction, and I hope to one day accomplish my dream of writing shitty novels. One day I'll be able to put the abominable plot lines that live in my head to paper so they can keep the rest of you company at 3 A.M. too. If I’m not thinking about the creepy crawly things that leave their spaces in polite society to live in my head, I enjoy playing video games, spending time with my partner and cats, and making crafts.
